The Stops/Pegs

One of the key parts of the figure are these stops. Do not underestimate their importance as I did in the beginning. The following shows how I set the stops right.

I used Barry's design as templates for the correct angle. This is for the backward stop of the hip.

This is the forward stop of the hip. (The design below the figure is not the correct one for this stop but for the previous one.)

This is just another picture of Barry's design and setting the legs' angle right.

These are close up pictures of the stops I glued on the sides of the body. (Obviously, the pegs should not touch the inside of the thighs as the pictures might erroneously suggest.)

Then, I checked if the stops are right. For the hip you could use two small stops for each thigh one for the forward stop and the other for the backward stop but instead I used just one small wooden blocks. One side served for the forward and the other side served for the backward stop.

In this picture you can see that the forward stops are correct and even. The traverse is not glued between the knees yet so the legs move independently. This gives an easy way to check if the stops are correct. (I am holding the head of the figure in my left hand and the legs are resting against the stops - and they are even.)

Now, I turn him over and check the backward stops. You can see that they are far from correct yet. The right leg's angle is not enough. So, I carved off from the stop or the spacer.

If the angle is too big, you can glue little peaces of cardboard on the spacer (or on the stop.)
